Legendary local Sydney bottle shop P&V merchants and Black Market Sake will be hosting another free tasting; this time with the Toji (head brewer) from the maker of the finest yuzushu we have tasted, “Heiwa Shuzo”.
Heiwa Shuzo was established in 1928 in Wakayama Prefecture, an area renowned for its local Nanko Ume fruit and with a great, mild climate largely thanks to the Kuroshio sea currents.
(On a quick note, while some of our readers are certainly already aware, Ume is not actually a plum, it is actually closer to an apricot. This is why we are avoiding using the common “plum wine” term).
Heiwa Shuzo has been making some our favourite Umeshu (perfectly balanced, rich but not syrupy or oversweet) and as mentioned their Yuzushu over ice, is our ideal summer drink with the delicious Yuzu giving a fresh, tangy flavour and the sake base maintaining the Yuzu aroma and flavour. We cannot overstate how delicious this Yuzushu is.
The event is a short 4 minute walk from Newtown station and will feature Heiwa’s Nigori (cloudy) Umeshu, the delightful Yuzushu and a special 10 year old aged Umeshu, all of which will be available to try for free.
