Australian beverage importers, distributors, and food and beverage professionals are invited to discover the craftsmanship and regional diversity of Gifu at the Gifu Sake Trade Tasting Event, taking place in Sydney on Monday, 14 September 2026.
Co-hosted by Gifu Prefecture and JETRO Sydney, the event will bring together seven sake breweries from across the region, offering attendees the opportunity to taste a diverse range of premium sake and sake-based beverages while meeting brewery representatives face-to-face.
Discover Sake from the Heart of Japan
Located in central Japan, Gifu Prefecture is blessed with pristine mountain water, premium sake rice and an ideal climate for sake brewing.
Home to breweries with histories spanning more than three centuries, the region is renowned for preserving traditional brewing techniques while continuing to innovate. Alongside classic styles such as Junmai, Junmai Ginjo and Junmai Daiginjo, Gifu’s breweries also produce sparkling sake, nigori sake, aged sake, yuzu liqueur and umeshu.
This event offers a unique opportunity to experience this diversity in one place.
Business Meetings and Trade Tasting
The event has been designed for importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, sommeliers, restaurateurs and other food and beverage professionals interested in Japanese sake.
The morning Pre-Scheduled Business Appointments will provide an opportunity to hold one-on-one meetings with four breweries that are currently seeking Australian importers and distribution partners:

- Watanabe Shuzouten
- Yamada Shoten
In the afternoon, the Trade Tasting Event will showcase products from all seven breweries, allowing attendees to compare a wide range of sake styles, discover new products and speak directly with producers about their brewing philosophy and export opportunities.
